Located atop a hill, the Tiruttani Murugan Temple is one of the six abodes (Arupadai Veedu) of Lord Murugan. The temple is dedicated to Lord Murugan, who is believed to have come here to marry Devasena, the daughter of Lord Indra.
The temple is situated on a hill, Tiruttani Hill, with 365 steps leading up to it, symbolizing the 365 days of the year. This makes the climb both a spiritual and physical experience, giving devotees a sense of accomplishment as they ascend the hill to the temple.
The temple has an ancient history and is associated with many legends. One of the significant events in the temple’s history is the visit of the great saint Ramanuja during the 11th century, who is said to have performed several reforms in the temple.
